ProjectsConnexionsApril Cooper – Personal Adviser – Young People’s Services – Based at Dinnington Youth & Community Centre My role as Personal Adviser is to work with young people on a one to one basis through a referral system for young people who have been identified as needing extra support. At the centre where I am based I am part of the South Area Team which means I have close links with Anita the Centre Manager and Roy the Senior Detached Worker at Dinnington Youth Centre specifically. Through both my role and Centre placement I have had the opportunity to forge links with The GROW Project, this has proved to be a valuable resource in which to refer some of my young women or on occasion the mothers of some of my young people who have been identified as needing support. Because GROW has a Women’s Group on Thursday Mornings at Dinnington Youth Centre this has helped to develop relationships with both the Wendy and the women that attend. Conversely this has supported my role as some of the women in attendance have referred their children to me or at least asked for my advice and information in this instance. This is a unique situation and again highlights the positivity of this kind of networking. As a model of working I would say that this is an excellent example of networking in a Community Setting, Wendy and I have good channels of communication and are able to share relevant information in relation to mutual clients. This emphasises the importance of joint initiatives and awareness of the Services that are available to adults and young people alike. I hope this is useful in terms of highlighting the key examples of how being placed in a community setting can be used to its full potential when delivering effective services to our customers. A recent situation has meant that I have had to work fairly closely with Wendy to ensure all information about a woman I referred to her has been passed on to ensure that the necessary health & safety and risk assessments are in place when working with her as new information has arisen from other services, such as the Police, Social Services and the Mental Health Team, to ensure that Wendy is not left vulnerable as a worker. |
