Lone Parent Project 2005 – 2006

 Project Aim:

To enable Rotherham Lone Parents to access support, advocacy and training opportunities to create movement towards their personal goals. 

Over the last year the Lone Parent Project has continued to be a hive of activity:

  • 88 Lone Parents have joined the project this year.

  • 114 individual Lone Parents received 1:1 support.

  • 53 Lone Parents had Advocacy support; a high proportion of this is involvement with social services at Core Groups, Case Conferences and court proceedings.

  • 87 Lone Parents accessed Accredited and Non Accredited training opportunities

  • 5 Lone Parents gained employment.

  • 2 Lone Parents went into voluntary work.

  • A Drop In has been established at Dinnington Young People’s Centre.

  • The Project held 3 Lone Parent Open Day Taster events (Rotherham Central, Wath and Dinnington).

  • The project has linked with Wakefield Well Women’s Centre to share good practice and look at future partnership opportunities.

  • We have supported a Teenage Pregnancy Health Needs Assessment for Dinnington.

  • We held a Family Learning Taster Event for Lone Parents. 

Our funding requires the achievement of outputs and outcomes but the project remains committed to the person centred approach and the importance of enabling women to set their own personal goals and timescales.  Many of the issues Lone Parents present with are complex.  Time is needed to support and link in with other specialist services. The project continues to raise the needs of Lone Parents locally, regionally and nationally.   

Our partners play a key role in the success of the project; we aim not to duplicate services but complement and work to plug gaps together. 

The Lone Parent team are already working hard offering a high level of service and providing new opportunities and continues support for Lone Parents in the coming year.
